It seems that when it’s cold out and everyone you know has gone down with the mandatory Holiday flu, there is but one food item that makes you feel all better!
What better remedy than crispy, spicy & deliciously salty chickpeas?
They take 2 minutes to prep, approximately 10 minutes under the grill to roast. They are ridiculously addictive and they make you feel like all is good again! It’s an ideal treat that is also really easy to adjust and twist to fit your taste-buds! I took the recipe from Showhound’s basic and made it a bit more mine by using different types of paprika powder and a few more hits of cayenne pepper, but that’s because spicy food just makes me happy! This is the basic recipe, so now get your oven preheated and take out your spices!
Place the chickpeas (about 1 can drained & well rinsed) in a large bowl and 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin, 1/2 teaspoon chili powder, 1/3 teaspoon cayenne pepper, a generous sprinkle of sea salt. Add 1 tablespoon of olive oil and mix gently until evenly coated.
Spread the chickpeas in an even layer on a baking sheet
Bake under a grill oven (200C) until crisp, about 10 minutes for roasted to 30 minutes for really crispy!

Be careful because when these are hot they tend to jump out, so don’t burn yourself like it did trying to eat them straight out of the oven! Add some sea-salt on top and prepared to be HOT!
I wish you all a Happy New Year filled with delicious meals, spices and love!
