Chocolate Chips – to be or not to be?

120g butter, 1.5 dl of brown sugar, 1 dl sugar, 1 Tea spoon of vanilla extract (the real deal),  150 – 200 g of dark chocolate, 1 egg, 3 1/4 dl Flour, 1/2 teaspoon Baking soda. (cream the butter with the sugar, add the egg then mix dry the dry ingredients… don’t over do it!)  – Shape into separate balls – and in a preheated oven (200 C) for 10-12 minutes

This moment when you plan to make cookies and realize you don’t have chocolate chips… is actually my favorite one. It gives me the opportunity to crack open a tablet of dark 80% chocolate, and observe the random event of slivers of strong, rich intensity forming under the knife.

I enjoy their unevenness and anarchist shapes, the fact that they start to melt almost immediately and that truly you have no idea how the whole thing will turn out. Predictable cookies are so unhappy…

The great thing with the chocolate bits left over is that they don’t last very long… either tiny hands will deal with them first or you can throw them in a yogurt, with bits of crumbled cookies for dessert. no drama!
